Namaste In Bed

Here’s the thing…it’s been a crazy month. Between moving and testing and hospital visits, it feels like most days my energy levels are on the lucky-I-got-out-of-bed-and-put-pants-on side of things. However busy, these past few weeks have encapsulated some of our favorite moments on our journey thus far. It would seem, the more advanced my condition becomes, the bigger the laughs, and good times, and blessings. Go figure.

Speaking of figures (see what I did there?), last month, a dear friend of mine, Jennifer Holland, put on the most amazing Zumba / Yoga event: Move Your Buns For Lungs! She approached me about putting the event on a few months ago and I was so touched that she would even consider doing something like that.

An all-natural red head with a cat eye, she has lips to rivals Angelina’s and an I-am-woman-hear-me-roar attitude to boot. Where my attempts at sensuality usually involve successfully sauntering into a room without tripping, hers are effortless and uncalculated. A certified Yoga / Zumba instructor, she has more sexy zen in her pinky finger than if Jessica Rabbit and the Dali Lama had a baby. She knows all the good vegan / gluten free dives to eat at and could probably tell your future and fortune just by feeling your energy and talking to the closest planet, cuz she’s probably friends with one of them. {PEOPLE ARE SO GOOD AND KIND AND I CAN’T EVEN HANDLE IT!}Brave Little Lungs fundraising event for Mackenzie Madsen Unga

The morning of the event, me, Henry, Carter, Emma and about 20 oxygen tanks all piled into the car. Never had those car seats seen so much spandex. It was early, and we were about to do yoga, so naturally we stopped at McDonald’s for breakfast (notice the large Diet Coke in the pic…). We walked into Infinity Event Center in Salt Lake and were greeted by Jen’s boyfriend, Ryan, also a yoga instructor, also very fit (a dead ringer for Hercules, son of Zeus).

Diet starts tomorrow.

Christine Jones lead the yoga portion of the morning and let me tell you…it was the most exercise I’d had in a long, long time. Apparently, that was the case for Carter too because every position he got in, his muscles looked like they were going to shake out of his skin. Back in my ropes course days, we used to call those “Elvis Legs”. Eagle pose when you have the shakes looks a lot less Eagle-y and a lot more Pigeon-y. It’s no joke.

Not to mention, Henry had to stop every 5 minutes to “check my oxygen and make sure I was ok.” An excuse made flimsy by the beads of sweat dripping down his face.  It’s a good thing “Child’s Resting / Corpse pose” is a thing because that was my go-to the entire class.

The second half of the event was Zumba, otherwise known as the liberation of Henry’s inner Tina Turner. I didn’t even realize Henry’s hips moved that way. (Who am I kidding…it’s the reason I married him). Led by Jennifer and her army of hip-hop Beyonce bots (Angela Bowman, Courtney Archer, and Lindsey Flaviana Adams), we danced, we sweat, we shimmied and we pelvic-thrusted our little hearts out. I’m pretty sure my eyelashes were sore the next day, that’s how committed we were (see spirit fingers below).

But I think the best part of the day, was seeing all the amazing people who came out to support on an early Saturday morning. It’s always so humbling to be on the receiving end of so much goodness and spirit finger magic.

A HUGE thank you to Jen and her crew, Kenzie Smith for designing the flyer, Infinity Event Center, and everyone else who made the event such a HUGE success.

We love you! Trust me…my hips don’t lie.
